Renewable energy sources can be divided into two categories: non-polluting or contaminating clean. Among the first:
The arrival of bodies of fresh water to salt water masses: blue energy.
Wind: Wind energy.
The heat of the Earth: geothermal energy.
The rivers and freshwater streams: Hydraulic or hydropower.
The seas and oceans: tidal energy.
The Sun: solar energy.
The waves: wave energy.
The contaminants are derived from organic matter or biomass, and can be used directly as a fuel (wood or other solid plant matter) or converted into bioethanol and biogas by organic fermentation processes or biodiesel by transesterification reactions and urban waste.
The energies of polluting renewable sources have the same problem as the energy produced by fossil fuels: combustion emit carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and are often even more polluting because combustion is not as clean, emitting soot and other solid particles. Fall within renewables because while they can cultivate plants that produce them, they will not run out. Also considered cleaner than their fossil equivalents, because theoretically the carbon dioxide emitted during combustion has previously been absorbed to become organic matter through photosynthesis. It's not really the amount previously absorbed equivalent to that released in combustion processes because planting, harvesting, processing and transformation, also energy is consumed, with corresponding emissions.
